Excel Consulting Services in California

Fourteen California cities have their own page here, spread across roughly eight hundred miles from Humboldt County to Orange County. Each is written around that city's own economy, because an Arcata supplier and an Aliso Viejo professional firm have no commercial overlap at all. Find your city below.

Before you pick one

There Is No California Market, So Start With Your City

The distance from Humboldt County to Orange County is greater than the length of most states, and the economies in between are not variations on a theme. Nothing useful can be said about a California business until you know which California, which is why the index below is the substance of this page.

Two things do generalize. The administrative weight is heavier here than most places and, more importantly, it stacks: a city requirement sits on a county one which sits on the state's. A business whose customers, staff and premises cross a few municipal lines carries several at once, usually in a spreadsheet that grew a column at a time.

The other is that none of this work needs anybody in the room. Every engagement is delivered by screen share, which is why a practice based in Nevada can serve a firm in Alhambra without that being a compromise, and why a business five hours from a major city is not at a disadvantage.

Everything else is regional. Floor space dominates around the bay and is close to irrelevant in the High Desert, where a tiered utility bill does far more damage. Labor is the same story: piece-rate crews, billable hours and shift cover should not be modeled the same way.

Floor space around the bay and floor space in the High Desert are different orders of cost. No statewide template survives that.

California cities with their own page — schematic, not to scale

Northern California

Bay Area, Delta and the North

Six cities from Humboldt County down through the Sacramento Valley to the East Bay and the Delta. Freight distance and academic calendars at the top of the state, commodity pricing inland, lease structure and multi-jurisdiction overhead around the bay.

Central California

Central Coast and the San Joaquin Valley

Three cities where weekend-weighted tourism sits beside year-round local trade on the coast, and piece-rate crews work narrow harvest windows inland. Close together on a map, almost no shared commercial logic.

Southern California

Southern California and the High Desert

Five cities across the Los Angeles basin, Orange County and the High Desert. Import trade and landed cost, forward-booked capacity, billable hours, and tiered utility structures with heavy irrigation load.

What we do

Excel Consulting Services Offered Across California

Six areas of work, available in all fourteen cities. Which you need follows from your trade and your scale rather than your postcode.

Excel consultant restructuring an accumulated compliance workbook Structure

A Structured File Instead of an Accumulated One

The most common California job. One stored table of obligations and rules with each period generated from it, in place of a column added every time something new was noticed.

Models Built on Your Region's Real Costs

Square footage, tiered utilities, piece rates, billable hours or landed cost. The binding constraint differs by region and a model carrying the wrong one is confidently wrong.

Automated recurring submission built in Excel Automation

Recurring Submissions, Generated

Anything filed on a fixed date from records you already keep should be produced rather than rebuilt. With obligations stacked across authorities, that matters more here.

VBA validation and routines for a California business workbook Code

VBA Where the File Has to Check Itself

In a business with no finance department nobody's job is reviewing the numbers, so the workbook has to. Entry that refuses bad values and checks that run on opening.

Reporting at the Level That Explains Things

By category, by day of week, by block, by hour or by lead time. The level that carries the information varies by trade, and a monthly total almost never carries it.

Frequently there is no project, only a file that stopped balancing in the week a deadline lands. One call, your own workbook on screen, and a written note of what was wrong.

How it runs

Working With an Excel Consultant Anywhere in California

Five stages, identical in all fourteen cities. Stage one is unpaid and a good share of enquiries finish there with a recommendation.

  1. Tell us what the file is for

What it has to produce and where it started letting you down. Sending an export sharpens the conversation considerably, though it is not a condition of having one.

  2. We read the file and the cycle

Who touches it, what gets keyed in twice, and which stages depend on remembering a prior step. Those remembered stages are usually the weak point.

  3. Scope and figure, on paper

Both settled before construction. The file has been read by then, so vagueness about either would be a decision rather than an unavoidable fact.

  4. Construction in view

Each usable version reaches you as it is finished instead of everything landing at once, which is what makes an early change of direction cheap.

  5. A complete handover

The workbooks, any code behind them, a written account of how each part works, and time with the people who will operate it.

Who does the work

Jeff Mattus

Owner & President, JAAD Group

JAAD Group is Jeff Mattus, working alone from Las Vegas. He assembled the practice across more than twenty-five years of Excel and Office systems work, having reached the field through Computer Science rather than through a finance department.

Those engagements have run through finance, healthcare, technology and property, which is why an opening call usually produces a diagnosis rather than a discovery phase. It is also why a problem in one California region is often recognizable from an industry that looks nothing like it.

The practice being in Nevada has no practical bearing on a California engagement. Everything is delivered over a shared screen, nothing waits for a visit, and no part of an invoice is travel. For a business several hours from a major city that is worth more than a local provider's proximity.

Why a specialist

Why California Businesses Use a Dedicated Excel Consultant

Nothing else is done here

Excel, VBA and Office automation are the entire practice, which is why an opening read is usually accurate and the figure close to the final one.

A page for your actual city

Fourteen cities, each written around its own economy. You are not reading advice assembled for a different region with the name changed.

No statewide template

The binding cost differs by region, so a model built on the wrong constraint gives confident answers about a business that does not exist.

Structure before software

Packaged systems are sold hard at every scale here, and many firms already own one nobody configured. If that is the answer, you will hear it.

Built to be handed over

Written explanation, any code and training come with delivery, so the process stops depending on one person being available.

Remote, so distance costs nothing

A business in Arcata gets the same service as one in Anaheim, and nobody bills mileage.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Which California cities do you cover?

Fourteen, each with its own page: six across the Bay Area, the Delta and the north, three on the Central Coast and in the San Joaquin Valley, and five across Southern California and the High Desert.

The full index is above, grouped by region and tagged by county, which matters here because several of these names are easy to confuse.

Why a page per city instead of one for the state?

Because there is no California market to write about. Humboldt County to Orange County is further than the length of most states and the economies in between are unrelated.

A single page would describe none of them. This one makes the only honest generalizations and routes you to the city page that applies.

You are based in Nevada. Why would a California business use you?

Because none of this work requires anybody in the room. Reviewing a workbook together on a shared screen is identical whether the other party is in the next building or the next state.

What it removes is real: nothing waits for a visit to be arranged, and no part of the invoice is travel time.

My city is not on the list.

Pick the one whose dominant cost matches yours, which is not always the nearest. A firm billing hours has more in common with another firm billing hours three hundred miles away than with the shop next door.

The regional grouping above sorts them by constraint rather than alphabetically, which makes that easier to judge.

What is genuinely the same across the state?

The administrative load, which is heavier than most places and which stacks across a city, a county and the state, so a business crossing a few municipal lines carries several at once.

And the delivery model, since none of the work needs anybody local. Beyond those two the useful detail is regional.

Is there a California cost template you work from?

No, and anyone offering one is selling something that cannot work. Floor space around the bay and floor space in the High Desert are different orders of cost entirely.

The binding constraint changes by region: square footage in one place, tiered utilities in another, freight distance, crew labor or billable hours elsewhere.

Do you handle the compliance itself?

No, and that boundary is worth being clear about. What is owed, to whom and on what basis is a question for your accountant and nothing here replaces that advice.

Our part starts once those answers exist: holding them as stored rules, generating each period from them, and reporting what is open so nothing is missed.

Do you work in other states?

Yes. Nevada has its own page covering thirty towns and communities, and the practice is based there.

The method does not change across the line. What changes is the local calendar and the regional cost structures, which is what the city pages carry.

Send Us the Workbook

Tell us which city you are in and what the file will not do, or attach an export. You get a flat read on the problem and on what fixing it would take, with nothing agreed at that stage.
